Kim Kopatz has always known that
education and fun should somehow be part
of her life. However, putting this
knowledge into practice proved harder
than it sounded. A native Louisvillian,
Kim earned a degree in early childhood
education. Life intervened, though, and
she ended up working for her families'
printing business
for several years. She then spent
six years as the office/business manager
for InterSpace Computers and Fortress
Network Security.
Though Kim enjoyed her time with these
companies, something was still missing
from her life – she felt an urge to get
back to her roots. With this idea in
mind, Kim became an assistant teacher at
The Gardner School. At last, something
started to "click," but it wasn't quite
right yet.
In January 2008, Kim received a call
from a friend telling her that The
Parent-Teacher Store and Toys Too was
going out of business. "Barbara can't
close the store! I would have bought
it," Kim blurted without thinking. As a
teacher, she knew the store was a
desperately needed resource for the
community. That same day, Kim went and
talked to the former owner, Barbara
Rubenstein, about keeping the business
alive. Within a month, Kim was the new
owner of The Parent-Teacher Store and
Toys Too!
Kim decided to close the old Hubbards
Lane location in favor of designing a
new store with the help of her sister,
Jennifer Naive, and Stonelake Homes LLC
(www.stonelakehomesllc.com).
After many long days and even longer
nights, the NEW and IMPROVED
Parent-Teacher Store and Toys Too opened
April 25th, 2008.
Now Kim looks forward to work in the
store everyday – her place where fun and
education collide!
